So now it is clear. Trump has made a place for himself in presidential history. Only one other president, Grover Cleveland has made a comeback from losing an election after the first term. It is also clear that the future of the republic will be in peril for the next four years as he and his cohorts pull us away from the commitments we have made around the world and reduce our status as the world leader to that of an isolationist country the consequences of which will be a decline in our strength.
Was this an amazing success for 45 soon-to-be 45/47 or a cataclysmic failure on the part of the Democrats that it will be struggling to survive going forward? It was interesting to see friends who earlier thought Kamala Harris would be a poor choice for president until Joe Biden dropped out of the race and put her name up for nomination. The same people immediately rallied around her, but then who could blame them? There was no other Democrat in the race except Robert Kennedy Junior who went over to Trump in the end.
As long as I am going to play the blame game, I think the lion’s share of it should go to Joe Biden, who insisted on running for reelection, in essence denying his cognition problems and preventing the party from fielding several candidates for voters to choose from in primaries. There were better potential candidates out there that stayed out of the race, thanks to Biden’s ego. He failed his party and the country.
